I was fortunate to see Ali with Ry at Jazz Fest in New Orleans many years ago during the Timbuktu tour so these vid are golden. My son who plays guitar is into Ali now and wants to know what is rig set up is. Anyone knows? 🎭
hey! idk if you'll see this, and it looks like an old-ish (10mo) post, but hopefully it'll be useful. ali always (to the best of my knowledge) played through a roland jazz-chorus amp. not sure which one this is, possibly a jc-120, but tbh they're all basically the same amp but with more or less power (one or two versions are single-speaker, but they're mostly twins). i think he plays with a little bit of reverb, and a very "tight" chorus. as for the guitar… i'm afraid i don't remember the make/model of the one he's playing here. later in his career, i think he preferred "ovation" electro-acoustics.
